If your website’s not up, your business isn’t either — at least not to anyone trying to find you online.
The truth is, most business owners don’t know their site is down until a customer mentions it, or until they happen to check and find a blank screen or an error message. And by then, the moment has already passed.
That’s why uptime monitoring is part of the behind-the-scenes work I handle for my clients. It’s one of the simplest, most important ways to make sure your site is quietly doing its job around the clock.
What does uptime really mean?
It’s not just whether your hosting server is running. Your hosting provider might report 100% uptime, but your actual website could still be broken — because of a plugin error, a theme issue, a DNS hiccup, or even a domain that expired without warning.
Uptime means that your homepage loads completely and loads fast. If it doesn’t, people can’t reach you. That’s what really matters.
What I monitor — and why
All client websites I manage are actively monitored for:
- Homepage availability — A system checks the actual homepage every 5 minutes
- Page speed — It records how fast the site loads each time
- Smart rechecks — If a problem is detected, the system retries immediately to avoid false alarms
- Alerting — I’m notified the moment something appears wrong, so I can jump in fast
- Historical trends — I review uptime logs to spot patterns, outages, or opportunities to improve
Common causes of downtime I catch
- Expired domains or SSL certificates
- Traffic spikes that overload the system
- Hosting server issues or regional outages
- Broken plugins or software errors
- DNS misconfigurations or expired records
Why this matters
These checks don’t just give us peace of mind. They make sure the investment you’ve made in your website is working the way it’s supposed to — 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
You shouldn’t have to wait until a customer points out a problem. That’s my job. Uptime monitoring is one of the ways I quietly protect your site — and your reputation — from things you can’t always see coming.
Let’s build a website that stands the test of time.
Smart, dependable, and always working — even when you’re not watching.
